Senior Electrical Engineer

As Senior Electrical Engineer, you will lead our electrical engineering project processes from bidding and early permitting phase through conceptual and schematic design, design completion and overseeing construction administration support through project completion. When new projects are awarded, the Senior Electrical Engineer works with Project Managers and Project Engineers to successfully get the project off the ground and help to define approach, conceptual and schematic narratives and smoothly transition the work to the production team, and provide senior support for all aspects of the project. The Senior Electrical Engineer also serves as a technical resource and mentor to junior staff.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, with experience serving as senior EE in a client-facing role.
  • PE Licensure.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Previous experience with responding to Requests for Proposals, including estimating electrical design fees.
  • Strong aptitude in engineering design (transitioning from AutoCAD to Revit; but Revit not required)
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills essential for team-based working.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project demands and prioritize your own workload and that of others to meet multiple, sometimes conflicting deadlines.

Responsibilities
 
Technical
  • Serve as a technical lead electrical engineer. This includes the ability to act as the Engineer of Record, lead the quality review process of work products developed by others, and lead a team of electrical designers and electrical engineers.
  • Develop and evaluate system concepts and options to determine best design and engineering solution for each project based upon project scope.  
  • Develop design drawings and specifications of electrical systems for building electrical, lighting, and fire alarm systems, including preparation of all engineering calculations, equipment selection and layout throughout life of the project.  
  • Lead and coordinate with Project Engineers and Designers. 
  • Perform systems analysis and prepare reports and studies.  
  • Coordinate with other consultants including architect, civil, landscape and structural engineers to ensure electrical systems are integrated with all trades.  
  • Act as the client interface representing the electrical discipline on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of industry codes and standards, and develop code analysis reports. Preferred code knowledge includes NEC, NESC, IEEE Standards, energy codes, and building codes.
  • Design for electrical power distribution (medium/low voltage), grounding, lighting, fire alarm, communication systems, etc. for multi-family, commercial, government, industrial, and institutional buildings.
  • Prepare technical reports to define projects and provide clients with technical direction.
  • Attend kick-off meetings, walk-throughs of existing buildings/renovation projects, and site visits as needed.
  • Analyze, design and present technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Understand trends and standard methodologies in the markets in which we work.
  • Participate in the QC process by reviewing drawings and evaluating the need for design changes; make appropriate recommendations.
  • Assist Project Engineer with selection and specification of electrical equipment.
  • Day-to-day management of the electrical engineering team regarding tasks, projects, and issues, and removing roadblocks as appropriate.
 
Communication/Client Relations/Business Development
  • Write reports for internal and external purposes based on findings.
  • Interface effectively with clients and members of the design team; maintain and build strong relationships.
  • Represent company in project activities; direct activities of project team members; nurture relationships and networks to develop business.
  • Attend interviews and preliminary walk-throughs for RFP’s.
  • Network and attend key client events (groundbreakings, grand openings, fundraisers, etc.).
 
Budget
  • Responsible for fiscal decision making (proposals, contracts), working with information from Project Managers.
  • Assist in preparing fee estimates and developing proposals.
  • Complete all administrative tasks in order to ensure proper job tracking and invoicing.
 
Coaching/Mentoring/Professional Development
  • Oversee, guide, mentor and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team.
  • Teach teams to connect their solutions to bigger picture issues.
  • Deliver timely feedback and recognition to others.
  • Conduct staff development activities including work planning, budget development, scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
  • Participate in local Professional Associations.
 
Compensation and Benefits
Our salaries and Paid Time Off are competitive with those offered by other MEP/FP firms in the Northeast. In addition, we have historically provided bonuses as the firm’s financial performance has allowed.
