Geotechnical Engineer

Biddeford, Maine
Have you done soil and rock exploration and classification? Have you installed and used geotechnical field instrumentation? Have you done building and earthwork geotechnical observation and land surveying?

Are you able to do AutoCAD drafting, subcontractor coordination, and field and laboratory testing? Can you work as part of a design/construction team? Are you able to communicate with clients, team members, and in-house personnel?

If so, this Geotechnical Engineer (entry to mid-level) role may be a fit for you. As Geotechnical Engineer, you will be:
  • Conducting site observations and assessments, taking samples, reporting observed conditions, calculating data, and preparing reports.
  • Supporting geotechnical observation and investigation projects, observe and record drilling and test pit results, obtain geotechnical samples for lab testing.
  • Conducting environmental sampling, conducting environmental site assessments (I & II), ground water monitoring, landfill monitoring, and other environmental projects as are taken on by the firm.
  • Maintaining daily records to document testing/inspection services conducted.
  • Preparing field paperwork and summarizing field data, performing calculations, and writing reports.
  • Occasionally required to conduct assignments requiring geotechnical observation during construction and quality control/assurance programs.
  • Coordinating with other team members such as Dig Safe, clients, contractors, engineers, and in-house personnel.
  • Ensuring proper equipment is at the site to conduct sampling, testing and observation.
  • Participating as a member on the safety committee.
  • Ensuring that assigned company vehicle is clean and in good working condition and report any vehicular issues to the Materials Manager.
  • Purchasing supplies, or requesting supplies, as needed, coordinating with the Business Manager regarding pricing and budget.
We are looking for:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • The ability to perform heavy lifting (50 to 75 pounds).
  • A valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • The ability to work well with co-workers and clients.
  • Good computer skills – email, Word & Excel, as well as other geotechnical, geological, and/or environmental modeling software.
  • Strong math skills.
Education/ Certification:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering/Technology or Geology
  • OSHA 10 hour construction safety
  • OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER certification
  • Have or be close to attaining your F.E. certification and/or be on path to attain Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure.
  • Department of Defense security clearance, current or renewable, is also helpful.
