Survey Manager

We have an immediate need for a Survey Manager to join our Long Island, New York office and build our Land Surveying practice on Long Island. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in Land Surveying for a variety of applications, including boundary determinations, topographic surveys, utility surveys, highway surveys, ALTA/NSPS and subdivisions. The position requires hands-on knowledge of current technologies, and a proven ability to develop business, manage projects and mentor staff.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Recruit, hire and develop a competent field and office survey staff
  • Develop new business to compliment survey work for other VHB groups
  • Manage work load, staffing and quality control for all survey efforts
  • Develop and mentor staff
  • Project management, including management of budget, scope and schedule for small, moderate and large land survey projects
  • Coordinate survey efforts with other groups in an integrated services environment
  • Oversee Land Survey group performance with respect to financial and other metrics
Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be very knowledgeable in all aspects of Land Surveying, especially technical
  • Strong office computer skills (e.g. word, excel, deltek, OneNote, Teams, etc);
  • Familiarity with local subdivision and zoning requirements;
  • Proficient with least-squares adjustment, preferably StarNet, combining GPS and conventional data;
  • Ability to post-process GPS static data, preferably Leica LGO or infinity;
  • Experience with LiDAR data collection (terrestrial, mobile and aerial), registration & feature extraction;
  • Excellent AutoCAD Civil 3D skills with styles, codes, feature lines and surfaces;
  • Ability to direct and monitor construction layout services;
  • Must be able to go to the field as needed and proficiently lead a crew or solve technical issues;
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; and
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
  • 10 plus years of experience in Land Surveying;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related field;
  • New York Professional Land Surveyor license
