Project Environmental Engineer - Remediation

We are seeking to hire an Intelligent Transportation Systems Project Engineer to work on ITS projects nationally, including a high-profile Managed Lanes/Tolling project in Virginia. Project work will focus on the design and construction support of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) infrastructure and the planning, design and deployment of connected and automated vehicle (CAV) infrastructure, including power and communication systems. 

In this role as Project Engineer, you will contribute to helping our client partners prepare for the future of transportation and apply advanced technologies to improve safety and mobility on our highways.
Responsibilities
  • Work, as a project engineer, under the direction of project manager and senior engineers, on ITS and traffic management system projects
  • Develop and produce plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) design packages for freeway, arterial and transit ITS systems, including fiber optic and wireless communications systems, power distribution systems, CCTV, DMS, vehicle detection systems, RWIS, traffic signal interconnect and other ITS technologies and sub-systems, such as freeway open road tolling and managed lanes technologies.
  • Planning and development of ITS and CAV projects and infrastructure including preparing documents that follow the FHWA Systems Engineering Process (Concept of Operations, ITS Architecture, System Requirements)
  • Perform engineering activities including construction oversight such as conformance of products to specifications and addressing design issues pertaining to field installations
  • Perform preliminary field engineering (field equipment testing, utility, and infrastructure verification, i.e. taking measurements and pictures at field sites)
  • Writing technical reports and memoranda
  • Experience with DOT type design and specification development
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong civil or electrical engineering background
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Excel in working in a team environment
  • Ability to read and comprehend design and construction specifications and plans
  • Ability/willingness to work outdoors on occasion on highway job sites and uneven terrain
  • AutoCAD and/or MicroStation (preferred)
  • MS Office suite
Qualifications
  • BS in Civil or Electrical Engineering
  • 2 - 10 years of relevant professional experience in ITS/Technology Transportation field
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability/willingness to travel on occasion
  • Experience with ITS equipment and/or communications systems (cellular, fiber, wireless)
  • Interest in working across multiple disciplines concurrently with a diversity of assignments
  • PE preferred or ability to obtain
